An intermodal container, also known as a shipping container or ISO container, is a big, standardized container made for transporting goods between different modes of transportation, such as ships, trains, and trucks, without having to unload and reload the contents. In the global containerized intermodal freight transport system, intermodal containers are largely utilized to store and carry goods efficiently and safely, however lesser quantities are also used locally. There are several names for these containers. Up to 95% of intermodal containers that meet size requirements alone are recognized as ISO containers.
